My Role

- Research           - UX Design
- UI Design           - Usability Testing
This project is a 10-week individual project when I started learning ux on the Google Coursera Certificate course. It’s a health-care app providing COVID vaccine schedule, daily news and personal digital record.

PROBLEM

How to reduce the time and energy people spent on finding Covid vaccines and saving the records

Back in 2021, the pandemic was still a serious issue for everyone. Many people found it hard to record their vaccines taken from different States. However digital vaccination record was in need for in-person dining and traveling, etc. And people felt overwhelmed searching for the information online for where and how to get a booster. So as my first UX project, I was inspired to design a vaccine app.

DESIGN PROCESS

From empathizing to testing and finalizing

Through the process, I followed the systematic design phases, which helped me understand how to design a user-centered project.

Understanding the Users

COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS

Vaccine/health care apps

Before starting to design, I observed three healthcare software: Two for Covid-vaccination and one for general health care.

Here are some of my conclusions and inspirations:

USER INTERVIEW

What users really need

I conducted four user interviews, and came up with user pain points to better understanding what users need:

USER PERSONA AND JOURNEY MAPPING

Meet James! Our target user:

STORYBOARD

How VaccinIt help James register a COVID booster for his son

Wireframe and Usability Test

LO-FI DESIGN

Paper to digital wireframes

To start designing the wireframes, I began with drawing sketches using crazy 8s, and tried to design as many solutions as I could in a limited time. Those are some frames that I drew:

Then I started to drawing digital wireframes and prototyping:

- Digital record
- News & Statistics

- Search vaccines
- Schedule vaccines

- Personal info
- Reservation info

USABILITY TESTING

Time for users to try VaccinIt

This is the script and preparation I made for usability test. The goal is to determine if the users can complete core tasks within the prototype and determine if it is easy to use.

Observation 1

3 out of 5 participants find the homepage confusing. They wish the search button could be more obvious and easy to use

Insight 1

Simplify the home page and search button

Observation 2

4 out of 5 participants get confused when they want to use filters to book a vaccination

Insight 2

Provide filters with multiple choices for the booking page

High Fidelity Prototypes and Visual Design

HI-FI DESIGN

Simplify the home page

- Simplify the search panel
- Add some illustrations as visual design

Hierarchy of statistics

- Use hierarchy for fonts’ sizes and colors
- Interactive mapping and search button

Multiple search filters

- Use different colors for date and time
- Provide multiple filters for vaccine booking

Reservation page

- Separate vaccine info and customer info panels
- Use hierarchy for fonts’ sizes and weights

REFLECTION

Believe in the process

This was my first ux project when I started to learn ux design through Google Coursera Certificate. I learned how to think for the users and design user-centered product. Although this project can’t be launched because of lacking database in the health-related field, I still love this project. I learned to believe myself, trust the users and stick into what I am doing.
